Coast Guard rescuers were searching for a 16-year-old female and a 20-year-old male in the aftermath of the accident near Penn’s Landing. Nine people were hurt in the crash and were transported to local hospitals. And 35 passengers were recovered.
The tourist duck boats pick up passengers at Independence Mall, and make a brief trip on the river.
There had been a fire on the Ride The Ducks boat, incapacitating it, when it was hit by the barge and overturned. The duck boat was reportedly flattened by the barge. The accident took place shortly after 2:30 p.m.
The barge is owned by the city of Philadelphia and was being pulled by a tugboat.
